About Rich Drew I was raised in a small town on the South Coast of England called Poole and spent my teenage years living in the countryside. It was cold, gray and remote, so television and movies were my escape. I dreamed of one day living in America and being a part of the industry. After graduating from college, I began my television career in Birmingham, working as a PA and researcher on a kid’s TV show called Scratchy and Co. After a couple of years in the Midlands, I relocated to London in the late 1990’s. There I rose up through the ranks as a producer and later Showrunner. I spent two years on the groundbreaking morning show, The Big Breakfast and helped kick off the reality TV genre as a producer on the very first UK Big Brother and the second season of Survivor. I would later work on numerous reality series including Fame Academy, The Club and Fashanu’s Football Challenge and the UK version of VH1’s Best Week Ever. In 2005 a company I freelanced for opened up its first US office. I jumped at the chance to run the New York business, and quickly relocated to America, becoming the company’s US Vice President of Development and Production and immersing myself in the US TV industry. I oversaw specials for TLC, A&E and Travel, pitched to all the major networks and began to build my network of US contacts. Along the way I created and sold my own projects. Amusingly, as a gay man, I sold my first show to Playboy TV, a series called Around The World In 80 Babes. Later I created the competition reality show Redemption Song, Fuse’s biggest commission to date. In 2009 I left to set up my own production company, Savannah Media (Savannah was the name of my beautiful golden retriever). I developed and sold the TLC docu-series Curvy Brides and the Chiller special, Can You Survive A Horror Movie, while also landing development deals at networks including Bravo, Oxygen, TLC, A&E and GSN. Meanwhile I worked as an Executive Producer and writer on several outside projects and became a regular freelance Consulting Executive for NBC’s Peacock Productions, helping shape and sell several projects to series. As much as I loved New York, I knew my journey wasn’t yet complete and in 2015 I relocated to Los Angeles. Shortly after arriving on the West Coast I spent two years working as Vice President of Development for Scott Brothers Entertainment. The company, owned by Drew and Jonathan Scott, was based in Toronto, and I spent a lot of time on the road, traveling between the US and Canada. During my time with the company, I shifted our focus to property and lifestyle series, selling shows to HGTV, TLC and Facebook Watch and building out the business’s development department. Last summer I served as VP of Nonfiction and Alternative Programming at AMC Networks (covering for the regular VP during her maternity leave). I took pitches from production companies, helped develop the network’s first foray into continuing true crime and Executive Produced the second season of Eli Roth’s History of Horror. I’ve also continued to freelance as a Development Executive, working for companies including World of Wonder, Ample Entertainment, This Is Just A Test Productions and MGM, while also developing my own projects (including a big gameshow format I currently have in development at a major network). I remain as passionate about the TV industry today as when I first started in the business over 25 years ago – and am very excited for what the future may hold…
